From Olympians to Ecomonks: Designing and Building in Central Illinois

Thursday, February 10th, 2011
Jeffery S Poss
7:30pm

Knight Auditorium, Spurlock Museum 600 South Gregory Street Urbana

Event Description

The design work of Jeffery S. Poss, FAIA, embraces the rural condition of the middle continent, inspired by the sublime open space and the simple structures built upon the land to escape its vastness. The blending of figuration and abstraction, the common and the quirky, the large gesture and the narrative detail, Platonic ideals and Aristotelian empiricism gives them shape. Collectively they are places of commemoration and introspection that evoke the human spirit—public places that bring people together, or conversely, private spaces that allow people to find refuge in quiet contemplation
