In this conversation, Cynthia Oliver will discuss the making of her newest performance work, Virago-Man Dem, her commitment to making it in conversation with communities, of Caribbean, black men, queer men, and across race, geography/ nation, and generations of communities. The work recently premiered at New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival to critical acclaim, and will continue its journey across the country and region. This conversation breaks down the creative components of the work, the challenges of embodied research, its composition, crafting, choices around design and collaboration and the ways in which Professor Oliver's creative processes have been committed to community throughout.
