Why would someone be afraid of an artificially-intelligent painting machine? How does a computer that watches the movies provoke reconsiderations of human vision? What can we learn about visual culture from an autonomous robot that makes its own video art? Employing sound, code, robotics, and video, Ben Grosser will discuss a series of his computational artworks that attempt to engage the world as artists. Through these projects, he will examine our fear (or lack thereof) of software-based systems, questions of computational agency, and ultimately, how autonomous art machines can reveal the machinic nature of human vision.
