Donald L. Burkholder
CAS Professor of Mathematics
Professor Burkholder has made deep contributions to the mathematics of Brownian motion, martingales, functional analysis, probability theory, the geometry of Banach spaces, and other parts of pure and applied mathematics. In addition to his research, he has been an editor of a number of journals and was editor of the 1,028-page book Joseph Doob: A Collection of Mathematical Articles in His Memory. He has given approximately 300 invited lectures and lecture series in Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America; these include the 1986 Mordell Lecture at Cambridge University and the 1988 Zygmund Lectures at the University of Chicago. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
