Age-related Changes in the Expression of Interleukin-1ß in the Brain

There is evidence that the cytokine interleukin-1ß is increasingly expressed in the brain with advanced aging and is involved in the anorexia and cachexia of aging. The overall goal of this project is to determine the location and intensity of interleukin-1ß expression in the brain of juvenile, adult, and aged mice using a new technique that couples in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry.
