John Bardeen

CAS Professor of Physics; CAS founding member

John Bardeen was one of the four founding members of the Center for Advanced Study. He is the only person to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics twice: first in 1956 for his contribution to the invention of the transistor; and again in 1972 for his role in developing a fundamental theory of conventional superconductivity (BCS theory.)
