History

Printers and Society in the Soviet Union 1917-1930

The project explores the transformation under socialism of Russian working-class culture and consciousness. Using printed and archival records from trade union, factory, and party organizations, the study examines processes through which urban skilled workers sought accommodation with the Soviet regime, moments of resistance, and efforts to create new cultures at work and at leisure.
