A Composer’s Voice in the Cuban Diaspora

Cuban-American composer Tania León, one of today’s leading musicians, will speak about her experience as a composer and ambassador for the arts, including founding the Dance Theatre of Harlem, and her opera-in-progress, The Little Rock Nine, with libretto by Thulani Davis and historical research by Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
This lecture will be followed by a performance by the Illinois Modern Ensemble, conducted by Ms. León. The concert is scheduled for 7:30pm and features compositions by Ms. León, Ivette Herryman-Rodriguez and Odaline de la Martinez.
